Overview

Establishes and coordinates Infectious Control policies and procedures for all hospital departments in compliance with the JCAHO standards, State and Federal Regulations. Responsible for collaborating with the Infection Control Committee to implement the decisions of its members.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Ensures that an effective program of prevention and monitoring of nosocomial infections is in place.
  • 2. Educates hospital personnel, volunteers, patients and the community in the principles of infection control.
  • 3. Interfaces between hospital departments and community agencies regarding infection control and prevention.
  • 4. Serves as Infection Control resource to the hospital and participates in the hospital-wide safety and Quality Management Programs.
  • 5. Coordinates all infection control measures that ensure compliance with regulatory agencies' standards.
  • 6. Provides post exposure follow-up and counseling for all employees.
  • 7. Contributes to the productivity and efficient cooperation of the department.
  • 8. Monitors sterilization, disinfecting, and sanitation throughout the Hospital.
  • 9. Maintains continued professional growth and participates in research to further Infection Control knowledge.
  • 10. Participates in the selection of new products, especially safety equipment and personel protective equipment.

Qualifications

EDUCATION


B.S. in health field or completion of APIC epidemiology course with on-going education in the field of infection control and epidemiology. Certification in infection control after two (2) years of clinical infection control experience.


SPECIAL SKILLS


RN or Medical Technologist with at least two (2) years of clinical infection control experience, familiar with current literature in the field - application of those principles. Ability to interpret state and federal legislation as related to infection control. Six (6) months.


PHYSICAL DEMAND


Some exposure to working with contagious diseases.
Much traveling throughout the hospital.
