Responsible for organizing and directing employees within the sections of Radiology as assigned. Working with Tech Specialist and subordinates to establish section goals and helping those workers to implement work practices to achieve those goals. This job description and requirements for this position have been approved by the medical chairman for the department of diagnostic imaging as well as the executive committee of the medical staff.

Responsibilities

  • 1. DAILY OPERATION
    • 1.1 Directs the operation of the sections on a twenty-four hour basis. Assures that the staff reports work promptly and accurately. Maintains current and acceptable procedure manuals. Working with the staff, researches, evaluates and recommends new procedures, instrumentation and technologies. Provides Quality Assurance and other reports as required. Monitors the performance, completion, and accuracy of all proficiency tests. Ensures Continuing Education requirements of staff by arranging lectures, seminars and workshops to meet the criteria of our inspecting agencies.
  • 2. PLANNING ACTIVITIES
    • 2.1 Assists in establishing departmental and section objectives by collaborating with the Director, Program Director, Technical Specialists and Staff to identify Radiology needs. Assists in the implementation of hospital policies and programs as needed. Participates in the formation of the operating and capital budgets throughout the year.
  • 3. SCHEDULING
    • 3.1 Reviews master schedules completed by the Tech Specialists for all areas and verifies coverage for all areas. Handles vacation requests and all scheduling issues.
  • 4. PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT
    • 4.1 Sets goals with personnel documenting above and below average job performance. Conducts performance appraisals for staff including technical specialists. Arranges for orientation and training of personnel. Collaborates with the Program Director in hiring, counseling, interviewing and disciplinary actions involving employees.
  • 5. ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS
    • 5.1 Keeps all employees informed of organization and departmental policies. Attends departmental and hospital meetings and participates on committees as requested. Prepares reports, statistics and special studies as required. Meets or exceeds all requirements for ACR Connecticut and New York State accreditation for their section.
  • 6. PATIENT CARE RESPONSIBILITIES
    • 6.1 To supervise and coordinate care of Breast Care Center and Surgical patients. Produces Diagnostic examinations as ordered by a physician following the established policies of the Department. Able to provide appropriate care for patients served, regardless of age.
  • 7. MATERIALS MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONS
    • 7.1 Establishes and maintains par-level of supplies. Obtains pricing information from vendors. Schedules appointments and interviews representatives as needed. Collaborates directly with Materials Management and vendors to resolve problems by using own initiative. Evaluates suggestions for reducing costs in the department and implements it.
  • 8. TECHNICAL FUNCTION
    • 8.1 Maintains proficiency in all procedures within the section(s). Resolves technical and equipment problems in collaboration with staff. Performs and directs special procedures as necessary.
  • 9. PERSONAL CAREER GROWTH
    • 9.1 Identifies own learning needs. Attends inservice programs and outside workshops, seminars, training classes and educational programs to keep current in technical and management developments of the field. Demonstrates this knowledge by contributing to improved laboratory service.
  • 10. QUALITY ATTRIBUTES
    • 10.1 Motivates staff of all types and levels to perform and function at their optimum capacity, actively promotes the quality attributes of teamwork, fiscal responsibility, accountability, patient focused care, flexibility, creativity and leadership as required by the Hospital's Mission Statement.

    • 11.1 Works to assure that all service excellence objectives are achieved.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

 

Allied Technology, Life Science or equivalent Associates Degree required. In lieu of degree, candidates presenting strong combination of experience and education considered.

 

EXPERIENCE

 

5 years in leadership role in Radiology field.

 

LICENSURE

 

ARRT and CT State Licensure, Advanced certification in mammography

 

SPECIAL SKILLS

 

Working in a normal clinical Radiology environment, handling test, utilizing a computer terminal. Intense concentration with instruments or procedures. Works under stressful conditions, interpersonal and computer skills required.

 

PHYSICAL DEMAND

 

Lifting of medium weight objects. Intense concentration with instruments or procedures for most of the day.
