Overview

Works in the NICU with other Neonatologists and NNPs and provides coverage during nights, weekends and holidays. Supervises the NNPs and is a resource person and clinician to the remainder of the staff, like pediatricians and obstetricians.

He / she will assess, diagnose, plan, implement and provide care for all newborns in the NICU. Job functions also include performance improvement activities, meeting productivity standards and teachings. He / she will demonstrate proficiency in working with the designated patient population and serve as a resource and teacher throughout the organization and in the community. A strong, positive and collaborative culture will exist among neonatologist, perinatologists, obstetricians, pediatricians, neonatal nurse practitioners and nurses.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Provide on-site consultation to OB, neonatal and pediatric patients.
  • 2. Participates in the care of sick and premature infants in the NICU.
  • 3. Covers the L&D floor for high risk deliveries.
  • 4. Provides educational opportunities for staff.
  • 5. Communicates efficiently with staff and families.
  • 6. Ensures provision of quality care.
  • 7. Work in conjunction with Perinatal / OB Departments to increase present capabilities by providing a uniform approach to the care and treatment of the high-risk mother and her infant.
  • 8. Work in conjunction with neonatal / pediatric clinical specialists.

Qualifications

EDUCATION


Education (minimum educational requirement): Graduation from an accredited medical school with Board certification in Neonatal / Perinatal Medicine, or Board eligible.


EXPERIENCE


Three year fellowship experience in a Level III tertiary NICU for the management of critically ill newborns.


LICENSURE


Licensed as a MD in Connecticut.


SPECIAL SKILLS


This position requires the ability to work well in a busy environment including but not limited to the NICU, L&D, Well Baby Nursery and Pediatrics.


PHYSICAL DEMAND


Minor lifting, sitting, computer use.
