Overview

Responsibilities include interviewing patients to obtain correct demographic and insurance information; taking referrals, pre-registering, pre-admitting an admitting patients. Verifying insurance; order entry; cash collection. Obtains and processes all necessary information according to the departmental policies and procedures. Supplies nursing units with identification labels and armbands for each patient's admission. Fields large number of phone calls, requiring broad knowledge of hospital services and resources. Cross trains in all other areas of Registration.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Obtain all necessary information and prepares all required forms for preadmission and admission registration, including insurance verification and collection of Managed Care co-payments.
  • 2. Completes necessary functions required for admission process. Organizes and distributes to the respective nursing units , identification bands, labels and other documentation pertinent to the patient's admission. Assigns patients to appropriatenursing units , according to procedures and/or diagnosis.
  • 3. Processes expirations, according to departmental procedure and interacts with families in a supportive and empathetic manner. Coordinates remove of remains with Funeral Director and is knowledgeable regarding guidelines and forms necessary for all deaths. Follows procedure for notifying the Organ Bank of all deaths.
  • 4. Ensures proper handling of patient's valuables.
  • 5. Cross trains in all other areas of Registration.
  • 6. Promotes the Greenwich Hospital Patient/Guest Relations Program and exhibits Service Excellence standards
  • 7. ontributes to cost containment, productivity and efficient operation of the department.
  • 8. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.

Qualifications

EDUCATION


High school graduate required, some college preferred.


SPECIAL SKILLS


Knowledge of medical terminology as well as medical/surgical procedures with accurate spelling skills. Experience in computerized registration with a minimum of two years experience in the health care field, preferably in Admitting or Registration.


PHYSICAL DEMAND


Undetermined effects of using computer. Busy work area sharing desks enclosed area. Noise of office machines and many interruptions.
At times, the admitting the officer works alone and must be able to maneuver patients in wheelchairs, do a moderate amount of walking escorting patients, use elevators, have visual acuity and accurate command of the English language. There is a variable amount of mental stress caused by pressures to meet needs of patients, other departments, as well as completing daily assignments in a timely fashion.
