Assists the Manager and Assistant Manager of Patient Access in maintaining office functions of the department. Performs patient scheduling, patient registration and reception functions. Responsible for correspondence related to patient testing to appropriate physicians and communication with patients about test preparations. Assists in identifying and reporting problems regarding scheduling, reports, billing, registration and patient satisfaction which may require further assessment. Acts as a liaison and resource to physician offices.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Responsible for general secretarial support to ensure efficient operation of the services in the Patient access Department. Organizes workload and sets priorities to complete tasks accurately and within assigned time limits.
  • 2. Accurately schedules patient appointments by coordinating patient availability with facility and physician availability. Responsible for correspondence related to testing appointments and test results to appropriate physicians an accurate and timely manner .
  • 3. Acts as receptionist to greet and screen patients for departments. Performs registration functions accurately and obtains COA's and copies of insurance. Alerts staff of patient's arrival, etc.)
  • 4. Answers and screens all incoming calls to ensure the accurate and timely communications intra- and interdepartmentally.
  • 5. Responsible for the efficient operation and overall productivity of the Patient Access Department.
  • 6. Responsible for promoting the Greenwich Hospital Patient/Guest Relations Program.
  • 7. The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's/area's/department's policies and procedures.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

 

Two (2) year college degree or equivalent secretarial school education

 

EXPERIENCE

 

Two (2) years secretarial experience; basic bookkeeping. Understanding of insurance and authorizations and experience in scheduling and registration.

SPECIAL SKILLS

 

Type 55 wpm, working knowledge of medical terminology, computer literate with word processing skills. Knowledge of scheduling and registration skills. Requires excellent customer service skills

 

PHYSICAL DEMAND

 

Long periods of sitting and computer and phone use. Moderate amount of walking with stooping and bending for files. Ability to handle multiple assignments. Interaction with patients/families, physicians and staff.
