    Performs a variety of duties necessary to the operation of the Library. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.



    • 1. Provides reference services with demonstrated facility of library paper and electronic resources to patrons.
      • 1.1 Serves as first line of contact to library patrons, doing complex reference interviews to ensure referral to correct resources.
    • 2. Responsible for development of electronic resources including electronic card catalog, electronic journal check-in, electronic barcode system, and other databases as assigned.
      • 2.1 Demonstrate facility with electronic card catalog system as observed through development of electronic systems as observed by supervisor.
    • 3. Demonstrates familiarity with all library and multimedia systems and contributes suggestion for growth of these systems.
      • 3.1 Willingly learn electronic systems as backup as observed by supervisor.
    • 4. Analyzes and resolves problems independently.
      • 4.1 Works independently on projects as assigned by supervisor.
    • 5. Demonstrate facility with Docline, OCLC and other interlibrary loan databases.
      • 5.1 Fulfills interlibrary loan requests using National Library of Medicine as observed by the supervisor.
    • 6. Contributes to collection development of books, tapes and software and performs electronic cataloging functions.
      • 6.1 Recommends purchases based on gaps identified in the collection and user need as demonstrated to the supervisor.
    • 7. Actively participates on committees and in special projects.
      • 7.1 Displays involvement in hospital functions and committees as observed by the supervisor.
    • 8. Meets with the supervisor annually to develop annual departmental goals and objectives.
      • 8.1 Recommends new directions for electronic media to the supervisor.
    • 9. Meets with the supervisor quarterly to evaluate outcomes with approved justification for variances.
      • 9.1 Track projects and report progress to supervisor.




    Undergraduate degree or related experience preferred. Library or extensive computer experience required.




    Familiarity with databases and various electronic applications including Microsoft Suite. Prior experience working in a medical library preferred.



    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The employee is required to stand and walk. The employee must frequently stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally move and/or lift up to 50 pounds. The specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Incumbents as well as external and internal applicants who become disabled must be able to perform the essential job functions with or without the assistance of reasonable accommodation as determined on a case by case basis.
